Mo’olelo
Mo’olelo in ‘Ōlelo Hawaii means story and this is the foundation of our organization. Stories teach, entertain, and inspire us in so many ways. It’s through the lens of a storyteller that we participate in the world around us.
The Arts
Storytelling through performing and visual arts. Online and in-person classes.
Gatherings
Stories we create together through wellness and community events.
The Story of AI
Generations of innovators from voyaging canoes to teaching about using AI.
MO’O
We dance for our Kupuna, to keep their stories & ALOHA alive.
We dance for those who can't, to give them hope & strength.
We dance for the world, to show them that we are all connected.
Written for MO'O in 2006
With Our Native Relations
We are not on our traditional lands and acknowledge the Nisqually, Puyallup and many other tribal relations that we have the honor to connect through cultural practices. Our culture exchange team has performed at Pow Wow and coastal jams, along with being a part of canoe journey’s since 2022.
Extending the Aloha
We’re happy to announce that MO’O will be working with the Black River Canoe Family. Although MO’O is still a part of the Nisqually Canoe Family, this new partnership is to create paddling opportunities to the community. Most canoe families are directly connected to Coast Salish tribal affiliations, BRCF will be opening their arms to become an “All Nations” experience.
BRCF members are expected to attend practices, make their own regalia, learn the songs & dances, and earn their seat on the canoe. We will continue this wonderful tradition within MO’O.
Three [3] principles that guide our organization.
ALOHA
ALOHA: a term of respect & endearment recognizing that the person you are greeting is important. We embody the "Aloha Spirit" through our classes & teach it to our students.
KULEANA
KULEANA: means that you should take care of your responsibilities. This lesson is taught in the "Ohana Style" which is to lead by example. This flows from one generation to the next.
PONO
PONO: to be in "Right" standing with those around you as well as with the earth we inhabit. This is the heart beat of living in harmony with Akua, man & nature, Polynesian mindset.
We flow & travel like water, touching everything around us while making connections along the way.
